Mandorla: New Writing from the Americas / Nueva escritura de las Américas emphasizes innovative writing in its original language— most commonly English or Spanish—and high-quality translations of existing material. Visual art and critical articles complement the poetry, fiction, plays, and essays. The name of the magazine—mandorla, describing a space created by two intersecting circles—alludes to the notion of exchange and imaginative dialogue that is necessary among the Americas.
Mandorla has published work by internationally prominent writers and artists from the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, and many other countries. Those writers and artists published include Jay Wright, Nathaniel Mackey, José Kozer, Reina María Rodríguez, Kamau Brathwaite, Dodie Bellamy, Paul Hoover, Eleni Sikelianos, Reynaldo Jiménez, Nathaniel Tarn, Vera Kutzinski, Cindy Sherman, Graciela Iturbide, Francis Alys, Magali Lara, Daniel Senise, Consuelo Castañeda, Quisqueya Henríquez, Fernando Leal Aurirac, Eugenia Vargas, and many others.
