General Thematic Strands:

The categories under which proposals can be submitted are broad by design because the conference seeks to sponsor wide-ranging discussions concerned with all aspects of the relationship between computers and the teaching of writing. So, broad thematic strands include:

  • Advantages and disadvantages of specific computer technologies in writing instruction
  • Hypertext theory and practice
  • Accessibility
  • Synchronous technologies and the teaching of writing
  • Distance education
  • Assessing electronic documents

"For a few years I have been around online, but the wonderful community we have here really came alive for me this past weekend."

--Response to the 2001 C&W Conference at Ball State

Themes:

In addition to the above general thematic strands, the conference will be dedicated to looking at covering more specific strands concerned primarily with the intersections between the uses of computers and teaching in various settings and between thematic concerns within the computers and writing community and significant issues outside this community. Listed below are some themes this second kind that will be addressed during the conference.

  • Distance education in academic and corporate environments
  • Using computers to teach writing across K-16 learning environments
  • Virtual classrooms and disability studies
  • The visual and the verbal in on-line documents and visual culture.
