You Can’t Tell Me This Isn’t Poetry

Daniel M. Frederking

You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
It has rhythm.
Oh, it has rhythm.
I'm feeling it right now.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
Try to interpret this the correct way.
Guess what? You won't be able to do it.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
I use correct punctuation and grammar.
I can do that if I want to,
and William Carlos Williams can't stop me.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
I've had no professional training.
Get this.
I'm in just as good of shape as any other poet.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
My mom says it is,
and she doesn't lie.
She's been what's kept me going for all these years.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
Go ahead. Do your worst.
I don't plan on listening anyway.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
Roses are red,
violets are blue.
I'm rhyming these lines.
Does that bother you?
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
Words arranged in a pattern to create a sentence.
Sentences arranged in a pattern to create a work.
Sounds like a poem to me.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
Let's have a debate.
Bring it, Buster.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
This is poetry.
You just might not know it.
Face the facts.
You can't tell me this isn't poetry.
