Teach Me to Sing

Katie DuBois

“Teach me to sing,”
She cried to the rock.

Teach me to sing
and perhaps I’ll
find the strength within
to do things extraordinaire.

Things that lie with Morpheus.
Dancing, talking,
Acting, speaking.

Maybe then I won’t
Grant scum greater worth.
Maybe then I’ll change,
Cease the pummeling of thoughts long done.

Maybe then…

It’s a futile endeavor.
Boldness would never come
Courage would hide
Morpheus would keep everything

“It’s a hopeless venture,”
She cried to the rock,
“So don’t even bother.”
