Puddles

Andrew Veselsky

When it rains, I wait for the puddle to get about ankle deep.

Then with bare feet, I splash like a six year old.
Even now I’ll venture out
Old Crow bottle in hand
Hey, I know I look like a drunk idiot.
My toes go numb
I cough in my hood, and my nose is running
A quick check for a tissue, napkin, hanky; eh, my sleeve’ll do.
This whiskey’s garbage, let’s go grab that gin
Put some color in our cheeks
A little jive in our step
Dance to some shitty music while I make you blueberry pancakes
Shaped like your name.
