Constellations

Allison Kmichik

I want to rearrange the stars,
The constellations never made much sense to me
If I could I’d pull them down from the sky
Leaving only the moon to light the night
I’d pick you out of all the shattered pieces
I’d mend together your dreams
With your worst fears
I’d leave your hopes for last
And I’d hold you close and never let you go

If I could reweave the fabric of space and time,
I’d make our bodies whole
So we could stand again
I’d knit us back together, from the pieces we have left
So no one would have to watch us fade away
I’d sew the hearts we broke back together
I’d make our stories end a different way,
Because the fault, m’dear, was in the stars
