Alum Appointed to Detroit Schools Position

Following a national search, Excellent Schools Detroit named ISU alum Greg Harris as its first Executive Director. Harris most recently worked in public policy at the Cincinnati-based national education foundation KnowledgeWorks, leading policy initiatives on education, workforce development and economic development.

Greg earned a Bachelor's degree in English Studies from ISU in 1993 and received his Masters and Doctorate in English from Miami of Ohio. A noted political activist, Mr. Harris has served on the Cincinnati City Council and mounted strong campaigns for Ohio's 1st Congressional District seat against Republican Steve Chabot in 2002 and 2004.

Greg's parents Dr. Charles Harris, Professor Emeritus of English, and Dr. Victoria Harris, Professor Emerita of English, are nationally recognized scholars in their respective fields and served distinguished careers as members of the English Department at Illinois State University.
