Title of Course:______________________________________________________

Date:______________________________

This evaluation will be written outside of my presence,  collected by a student monitor, and given to the department secretary.  I won’t receive or read them until after final grades have been submitted.  Please do not  put your name on your evaluation unless you want to.  This evaluation is my only real way to revise this course in terms of your experience in it.

Please answer the following questions in typed form as specifically as possible:

1.  Why did you take this course:  teaching requirement?  Fit schedule?  Content?  Professor?

Other?  General Education program?   Circle one.

2.  What have you learned this semester in terms of content?

3.  What skills/perspectives have you learned that you can transfer and use in other courses?

5.  How did this course facilitate your learning?  (specific tools or methods such as:  papers,

exams, in-class discussion, office hours, extra credit, participation, other)

6.  Where did you feel that this course didn’t contribute to your learning?  What is a professor's job/responsibility is in regards to your learning?

7.  Where do you see your performance level affecting how much you learned?   How much responsibility do students have for their own learning?

8.  Comment on email, phone, office hours?  How many times did you use these options during the semester? Were they helpful?

9.  Comment on the classroom environment:  your own comfort level; class and professor's acceptance of your comments, questions, etc.;  participation of class as a whole.  Do you feel that you got to know people in this course?  What would you do to improve this environment?

10.  Comment on the availability of materials:  handouts, books, library, reserve list, syllabi, study guides.  Did you purchase the required texts/packets?  If not, why?  Do you feel this had an effect on your ability to learn and participate, as well as on your final grade?

11.  Out of class events:  were there consistent announcements in class of events, meetings, lectures, readings, etc.?  What did you attend as a result of an in-class announcement by professor or students?

12.  What grade do you believe you have earned?  Why?  What grade were you realistically aiming for?  How did your effort and interest level contribute to your grade in this course?

13.  Policy Statement:  what do you think this statement was designed to accomplish?  Did it accomplish those things?  Do you find the policy statement:  clear, useful, too restrictive, vague?  Where?  How did course policies affect or facilitate the classroom culture/environment?

14.  How was this course different from what you expected?

15.  What do you wish you had learned this semester that you didn't?

16.  Finally, I would really appreciate an evaluation of the research project for the semester.  I want to know if the time you/we spent on it, in and out of class, panned out in value.  Was it actually a learning experience for you?  If so, how is it different from writing standard literary essays?

How would you change the assignment I gave you?

How would you feel about doing a class-wide publication of your projects?

How would you feel about working collaboratively on these projects through the semester, as long as your grade didn’t depend on anyone else’s?

I look forward to reading your comments.  TLT
