About Us
The Publications Unit is a service and instructional branch of the Department of English, which provides editorial, technical, marketing/advertising, graphic design, and desktop publishing/production support associated with several independent literary publications, scholarly journals, and a small fiction press, including, Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora, SRPR (Spoon River Poetry Review), the Sinclair Lewis Society Newsletter, the IATE Newsletter, the Illinois English Bulletin, and FC2 (Fiction Collective 2). Most of the publications have a faculty affiliation or historical connection with the Department of English.
The Publications Unit also serves the vital role of providing educational and practical experience for the department's graduate assistants and undergraduate interns interested in nonprofit presses, journals, and scholarly publications. Many students in the Publishing Studies sequence receive their practical experience, a requirement of the program, at the Publications Unit. This experience includes proofreading, editing, design and layout, marketing, advertising, permissions, graphic work, record keeping, archiving, and bulk/distribution mailing. By providing a broad work experience, the assistants and interns not only build their portfolios, but also enter the marketplace with valuable and current skills.

Steve Halle
Director
Steve Halle is director of the English Department's Publications Unit at Illinois State University. He is the author of the poetry collection Map of the Hydrogen World and the chapbooks The Collectors and Cessation Covers. Recent creative and critical publications can be found in Another Chicago Magazine, Cordite Poetry Review, Luna Luna Magazine, Smoking Glue Gun, and the DIRTY : DIRTY anthology. A freelance book designer and typesetter, he also directs the micropress co-im-press, edits the poetry journal Seven Corners (7C) and the chapbook press and workshop PRESS 254, and hosts the Re:Verse reading series. Halle holds an MFA in Poetry from New England College and a PhD in English Studies from Illinois State University.
Holms Troelstrup
Assistant Director
Holms Troelstrup received her MA in English and Creative Writing from Illinois State University in 2010. While at ISU, she was awarded the Sutherland Fellowship in Poetry, which included an assistantship at the Publications Unit. Her first book of poetry, Within Mutiny, was published by co-im-press in 2013. Prior to starting as Assistant Director of the Publications Unit, Holms taught a variety of writing and communication courses at Bradley University, Eureka College, Heartland Community College (where she also worked in the writing center), and Illinois State University.
